ToilAndTrouble S1 Basalt Halls Part 4
There was dark. It was always dark. He felt something trying to reach him, but the dark was stronger and kept it away, clawed at it hungrily, bit it, lunged at it until it managed to get away somehow.
Then he was alone. Except for the presence that was always there. Always nowhere and everywhere. It was dark but it could see him. He knew. He closed over himself, trying to become as small as possible.
And he felt the liquid.
It was on his hands and feet. All over the floor. He didn’t want to see what it was. He moved his lips. He barely heard himself talk, but he knew he did. He always did. He shouldn’t. He knew the presence cou

With Medium Weebitty being herself again the wind had stopped. There were no other exits to the room, so whoever had left behind the magic trinket that caught her was elsewhere, maybe even in another floor of the dungeon entirely. She hadn’t even found it in this room, but right by one of the holes by the south door of the first room, which was worrying. Akina hadn’t felt anything when they had been there, however, so for now the rest of their respective groups should be safe.
There were no other traps around, so while the barboach and Aki rested a bit Emiko checked the room. He found a large piece of meatroot severed by the wind

From the set of keys Corporal Argil had been carrying when the Rock Slide hit him only two were more or less in good state. They tried both on the closed door on the east wall of the damp room but none matched. Akina bit his lip. He had a feeling, call it a witchy hunch, that door was the closest one to the exit.
They moved again to the first room, where Denver’s crew were making progress on the pits. At least they could move in straight lines for the most part now. A few log bridges here and there had done the trick where the mortar hadn’t been enough.

The first thing Akina did once they crossed the dungeon entrance was calling for a small ball of fire to make sure there would be light. As it was, the first room was barely illuminated by some torches in the walls, but most of them were extinguished. The floor was full of holes of different sizes and weird shapes, as if someone or something had been taking chunks at random. There seemed to be a path to their left, but the dark didn’t let them see much farther to know for sure.
Emiko’s hands clenched on the braixen’s tail. He had calmed a bit before entering, but now the situation was again crashing on him. He was managing,

Emiko had been fidgety all morning, which was perfectly understandable as always. The task at Subseed Dungeon had been a simple one, this was the real thing. The nature of the dungeon would make it improbable they’d see other teams, so it would be the two of them and the workers they’d be supposed to protect. And it’s not like some barboach would be much trouble, but there would be traps too.
That was probably what was worrying him the most. Mawiles. Cave dwellers from birth. His species had a natural attunement to those places. Even with the weird energies that poured and changed the dungeons, a true mawile would be able t
